Want a less stressful closet?!

WARDROBE STYLING TIP OF THE WEEK

First, let's diagnose the problem.

What's causing the stress?

Is it the volume of clothing?
The responsibility of taking care of the clothes? (Washing, folding, etc.)
Trying to store your clothes in a small space?

But here's a short story to illustrate the stress that some of us consider the norm and how to break the cycle.

I was helping someone edit their wardrobe to identify what's working and what's not. We were going through each item to ensure that it was useful and something they still loved to wear.

All was going well until we hit...

the sock drawer...

This drawer was stuffed to the brim.
It was so full the drawer was unable to slide open or shut.
So we started with what was at the top, where the most frequently used items reside.
We sorted and decided to keep the socks that were in good shape.

At the bottom of the drawer, we found a brand new package of unopened socks!
"WIN!" I thought. "Now we can utilize the nice new socks and let go of the old socks. It's an instant upgrade and a buried treasure."

However, the sock owner insisted that we keep almost every sock from the drawer.
This is no problem and it's of course always up to each person to decide how they want to interact with their belongings.

But it got me thinking...

As I drove home, I considered the responsibility of owning 100 pairs of socks.
The real estate needed to store 100 pairs of socks...
Washing 100 pairs of socks...
Trying to pair each sock with the right partner...

CONCLUSION:

To have a less stressful closet, it's essential that we keep excess at bay, and purposefully choose how much of something we want to have and take care of.

BENEFITS OF

FEWER-BETTER:
